Note: This post will be text intentsive, wear your specs, rub you eyes and get a popcorn if you need. If....by any chance anyone feel offended...i am really sorry. Nothing much to share about on friday...except for some thoughts and bbq~!!@
**After 1st edit**
Was on my way to school on friday.. and on my way...while walking through the carpark... i saw an old lady...she was someone who watched me grow up...but...seldom see her nowadays.. so i went over and greeted her...with simply 2 words... "ah po"... she gave me a smile... one thats different from many of those that your friend will give i presume. Continuing she asked my a few question...she spoke in cantonese and i couldnt understand much...most of it...and i tried replying back in teochew... but...well..if conversing through verbal language that it goes back to body language...made some guesture...to try to communicate... she tried to ask me to go first...because she was walking abit slower...but well... felt like juz walking beside her...and juz did it... until when i had to go the other way...
But whats most important is not how we conver, not how fast we walked..but its the smile that she gave from just a simple greeting that many of us...teenagers...would get plenty of them everyday.
theres so much to say...yet so hard to put into words..
Many of us may say about what we wan to get...the latest game console... new clothes... but that may not be what we really need. perhaps what many people need is just that somebody... somebody who is willing to be there with you... whom lets you know that you can always go back to him... not necessary to spend time with you because you had spent time when he needed it..no need for words beccause not all words are meaning full... no need for anything because all is but things that may not be so real after all...but just standing beside... giving you the comfort that you need.
Perhaps its the different phrase of life that we realise that we have different needs... when we were young... we wanted to be all fun and fantasy... when we grow older.... we wanted to work and earn more money.... and in the end what we might really want...may just be a healthy life... and few good friends to hang around with... and a family to be there after working hours..waiting for you at home..
life...may just be that simple after all...
saturday...woke up early to go to office to collect pay...(after being forced for 3 weeks) following on...went over to the market below army market to have my lunch... halfway through..and old lady approach me to sell me tissue...
well...as much as i wanted to buy it.... i rejected her... some might think that this is a bad move... or anything... but it doesnt matter...
yes...its not their fault that they want to sell tissue...and not do other things... but they didnt really have a choice... P.S. : to my class members... if you are thinking of ...YES THATS WHY OUR COURSE IS HERE...SOCIAL ENTERPRISE IS THE WAY OUT....please...think it on your own....dun tag this piece of rubbish on my tagboard... if social enterprise is the way out to everything... theres no need for anything then
back to topic: singapore has globalize alot over the span of her 40+ years... and this... may be healthy and unhealthy... healthy in a sense that...its economy has boomed alot...and infact...is like a first-world country... but what many neglect is the effects that it brings along too... what about the old people...they didnt have the chance to have education... and with Singapore growing this fast... whatever skills that they have... which might once be valuable...might be worthless now... and with such rapid change...whats there in the Singapore culture... except for something which many of us would be proud of... which is our "rojak" culture...mixing all the culture from different races together... but in fact... it juz creates different community within the society...
whats the main culture of Singapore then? many would say that its the kiasu spirit... but...can that even we considered Singapore's culture? it is juz using culture from our own race...adding on to a "kiasu spirit" and we calls it a singapore culture...
Whats the actual thing that created this "kiasu spirit" then... perhaps... its the tension between the different races that causes... true...theres not much that can be done to create a Singapore culture...since most Singaporean are from different races.. and what are we taught are but a common set of values....values tt makes us better person... and to tolerate and understand other races.... but tolerating... one day... there will be a limit to tolerance... understanding... we may know how each different race and religion...whats their culture like...why they did some things... but can we really understand it and embrace it? no discrimination but.. no matter how much we try to understand other culture... there will still be a..sense of caution because the culture we practise may be totally different...
no conclusion or anything.... leave it to the reader to think about what is said...might make sense...might no make sense.. but it doesnt matter...
